Joseph Mortimer
Pl's Great Grandfather
His death cert gave me the following information:
- It gave me an age for Joseph. I can't trace his birth cert as he was born around 1820, possibly outside the State. The national civic indexes only go back to 1864. To go further back you have to go to Parish records and you need to know the parish concerned. I can't trace a marriage cert for him either. The national civic indexes go back to 1845, at which stage his wife to be was only 3 years old. This makes me think they got married outside the State, possibly in Yorkshire which is possibly where Joseph came from.
- It told me he died of acute peretonitis which lasted four days. Presumably this could have been anything from a burst appendix to sitting on a rusty nail.
- [I already knew he was a carpenter from Patrick's marriage cert.]
- The family was still living in Glasnevin.
