P�l's Granny


Her birth cert gave me the following information:

• It gave me a precise date for for her birth.
• It also told me that Christopher was living at 122 James's Street at the time. This is the house I had difficulty in finding as it was demolished around 1900.
• Curiously, it does not record Sarah Rankin as being illiterate. I don't know if this was a discretion exercised by the transcriber. I could check out the original register, another time;.
• It made me curious why Granny needed a birth cert in 1945, when she was 71. Unlike most of the other certs in this collection which are research copies from the General Registrar's Office, this is one from Granny's own papers which she got in 1945.
• The baptism cert (Bapt) is interesting in giving the female sponsor as Catherine Rankin. Most likely to be Sarah's sister?
